Our Lady of Fatima is an independently funded private institution. As a private school, parental involvement is both encouraged and expected. Your contributions of time, talent, and treasures enrich our school in every way. Volunteering is necessary to fund raise to help keep tuition costs down. Here at OLF, we would like to keep the spirit of “SERVICE” alive! We feel that if everyone helps, we can make our many commitments a reality for our students. Also, when children get to see their parents involved at their school, it is very exciting for them, as well.
Here are a few of the ways that you can get involved:
A Catholic School Board is set up according to the code of Canon Law. All Parish boards are consultative. Actions of the board become effective only upon the approval of the Pastor. Since the main purpose of the board is to assist the Pastor and the Principal in providing quality Catholic education in the Parish School, the majority of board members are to be practicing Catholics. To be a school board member is more than just a job and is distinctly different from a political commitment. It is to accept a mission and to bring to that mission one’s talents, wisdom, experience, faith, life and good will.
ADOPT A STUDENT PROGRAM
You can help a family who is experiencing a difficult financial situation, but values the importance of a Catholic education.
You can make a recurring donation or donate only one time.
Each year as the school year begins, Our Lady of Fatima School sponsors a Scholastic Book Fair along with our annual Open House. Students are familiarized with current authors through a “Meet the Author” video. Then, students visit the book fair throughout the following day. Parents and grandparents are invited and encouraged to attend this event with the students.
LENTEN FISH FRIES
As part of our Lenten activities each year, fish fries are held on Fridays during Lent. Our local Knights of Columbus prepare the meals and parents of our school help with the serving.
Bingo
Our Lady of Fatima School has long had the tradition of a fall and spring Bingo to benefit the school. Centered around the upcoming Thanksgiving celebration, the Fall Bingo gives away Turkeys as prizes for each game played. There is also raffle; cash money is given for this prize. In addition, a final cover-all game is offered with the prize being half of the income from this game. A concession stand run by the PTO is available for the evening. Our older students offer a Bake Sale to raise money for their Space Camp trip.
In the Spring, the same format is held for a Ham Bingo, centering around the upcoming Easter celebration.
Each December Our Lady of Fatima School holds its annual Santa’s Secret Shop. The purpose of this event is to allow students to shop for family and friends as a surprise. Students are supervised as they plan shopping lists and budget their money to purchase family gifts for Christmas.
